Trustee Board

Our Trustee Board - What is it?

All schools in England have a Trustee Board which is responsible for overseeing many of the strategic decisions of the school. A key role is to act as a ‘critical friend’: to support, to challenge, to ask questions, ultimately to represent the school community.

The Trustee board works in close partnership with the Headteacher and staff. Whilst the Headteacher is, of course, responsible for the day to day running of the school, the trustees are involved with such things as staffing, curriculum, school buildings and finance. It ensures the school functions well and maintains the proper range of academic and social objectives.

Membership of the Trustee board includes parents, teaching staff and representatives from the local community and the Local Authority. The Trustee board meets six times a year; additionally, there is a Finance, Audit and Risk committee which also meets at least termly.

Join in

All Trustees to a school’s Trustee board must be elected.  If you want to be part of Manor Leas Infant School's Trustee board please enquire about any vacancies. You are very welcome to contact Mrs Charlotte Rossington, our Chair of Trustees or Miss Claire Turner, the Headteacher, for further information.

Becoming a Trustee

On appointment as a Trustee, the Clerk will provide you with an welcome pack and you will be appointed a mentor, who will be another member of the Trustee Board. You will be required to attend Trustee meetings, and those of the committee you become a member of. Before each meeting you will be provided with the agenda and all supporting documentation to enable you to understand the purpose of the meeting and focus your thoughts on the items to be discussed.

As a Trustee it is important to get to know and take an interest in the school. You will be encouraged to undertake training to enable you to undertake your role to the best of your ability.

The Headteacher, Staff, Clerk and Governors at the school are all very friendly and approachable, and willing to answer any questions you may have about being part of the school’s Trustee Board.
