At Manor Leas we learn to respect everyone and realise we all have similarities and differences - we are all different and that's great!
Our Religious Education Intent
Our RE curriculum aims to develop an understanding of religion by exploring different religions and increasing their knowledge of different faiths, practices and cultures. RE encourages sensitivity and respect, it promotes acceptance and understanding and enhances a child’s own spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Our school consists of children and adults who have different faiths and those who have none; we aim to encourage our school community to celebrate their own faith and to be respectful of those who may have different views to their own.
The aim of our RE curriculum is to reflect a Worldview approach which explores the ways in which people make sense of the world and the impact of this on their daily lives. It explores the diversity between and within religions and is inclusive of religious and non-religious traditions.
Children will explore and develop an understanding of different religions and worldviews as laid out in the Lincolnshire Agreed Syllabus for RE. They will learn through the following progression strands:
Belonging, identity and community;
Beliefs, Influences and Values;
Expression, Experience and the Sacred;
Truth, Interpretation and Meaning.
Our curriculum is designed to encourage creativity, imagination, enquiry, debate, discussion and independence, whilst learning to respect the views and beliefs of others. Staff encourage children to respond to the learning in their own way; this may be in the form of a piece of artwork, drama, by asking questions or within an adult-led task.
In EYFS, children learn about Special and Sacred which will enable children to make wider connections and form the foundation for exploring the concepts of community and identity.
In KS1, children build on this knowledge by learning through special and sacred stories and traditions. They will then learn about sacred texts, beliefs and connections. All children will be exposed to both Abrahamic and Dharmic religions as part of the RE curriculum.
Whilst we strongly encourage all pupils to take part in RE lessons, parents have the right to withdraw their child from all or part of the RE lessons. Please speak to your child's class teacher if this is something you would like to consider.
